Whiskey, An American Style !!

                       Whiskey, An American Style!!

Today lets take a backseat and talk about Whiskey, what say?

It all started with a mix and it ended with just one and only Whiskey for me. It has been my poison for a while and I never knew that there was a huge difference between Scotch and American whiskey's. My Bad, may be i never had anyone around me who loves whiskey as i do until one fine evening when i met Shatbhi Basu, India's best known lady Bartender representing the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.

It was time to say " Cheers "

With all the excitement i reached the session 2 hrs early :-) which actually gave me an opportunity to have a small chit-chat with Shatbhi regarding her love for #Bangalore and the common poison "Whiskey".

Did you know the difference between an American and Scotch whiskey ? The main difference between scotch and whiskey is geographic, but also ingredients. Scotch is whiskey made in Scotland, while bourbon is whiskey made in the USA, generally Kentucky. Scotch is made mostly from malted barley, while bourbon is distilled from corn.

We had an amazing session to know the differences and also taste them with great accompaniments served by Vivanta.

So from getting to know the 7 different American whiskey's history, From Tennessee Whiskey, like Jack Daniel’s to Bourbon, like Jim Beam.

Here is what we tasted with the delicious starters:

Jim Beam White Kentucky Bourbon: Which has been the same formula from 1794 and the one we tasted was 4 years Aged. This is a light whiskey, it smells sweet but when you taste you get the flavor of spices and nothing sweet :-) Also this is now added to the buy list.

Jim Beam Double Black: A Double Aged 8 years old. This is yet again a Smooth and elegant whiskey that has a flavor of fruits and Carmel. You would fall in love with this for sure.

Jack Daniel’s: JD the name in itself does the magic; it’s the drink which you can sit down with a 30 ml neat on a nice chilled evening. The flavor you get is more of caramel and smoky. I am totally in love with it.

Gentleman Jack: Gentleman Jack is Charcoal mellowed before going into the barrel. As this is filtered twice through maple charcoal; the flavor you get is fruity and spices. As they say – “ When you drink Gentleman Jack, do so with pride, for this is the whiskey a gentleman orders.”

Jack Daniel's Silver Select: One of the best from JD in which the taste would differ from bottle to bottle. Aged to perfection This gives a flavor of spices and is aromatic hence its used in baking as well. Not only with the Whiskey but you would love the bottle as well. Its Prefect for gifting any Whiskey Lover.

Maker’s Mark: For all those who love nuts and the sweets this is the one for you. Not only that can you smell it but it taste sweet chocolaty as well. The best for the ones who love whiskey based cocktail’s.

Woodford Reserve: it’s a Smooth and rich, with flavors of cinnamon, walnut, and allspice complementing both the oak and vanilla tones imparted by barrel maturation. A certain rye spiciness adds a bit of flair to the overall flavor profile. This whiskey is utterly delicious. The best for the ones who love whiskey based cocktail’s

Besides the Whiskey tasting Shatbhi with her team made some amazing whiskey based cocktails for us. The best one that we all were taken to surprise was the one where she used peanut butter and Vanilla Ice-cream and chocolate sauce which was called "Choco Nut Madness" it was truly a madness. No wonder she is one of the very well know mixologists.

I couldn't get enough of the taste and so I reached home and the first thing I did was to make another Super easy cocktail with Whiskey and orange juice which was one of her recipes called "Fred & Ginger" .

Fred & Ginger

Here is the recipe I tried and named it Depressed Soul :

3 ½ oz Jim Beam bourbon whiskey
2 oz Pepsi
2 oz Mountain Dew
Ice

Fill a mason jar with ice. Pour over the whiskey (Jim Beam). Then add the Pepsi and Mountain Dew. Mix if desired.

Lastly, How can I miss a #Selfie moment !
